El Astronaute…What More Can We Say??
2018 has been a quite remarkable year for El Astronaute who has now run twelve times and has finished in the first four on each occasion. Timeform, the Bible of racing form have described him as ‘spendidly consistent’ and I don’t think anybody can argue with that.
On Saturday, El Astronaute made his first foray out of the UK a winning one when landing the listed Prix de Bonneval under Jason Hart at Maisons-Laffitte, a track where earlier in the season Signora Cabello won the Prix Robert Papin.
Showing his usual blistering gate speed El Astronaute led his rivals from start to finish and never really looked like being headed despite taking on some useful rivals. At the line he was a length and a half to the good.
This was El Astronaute’s first win in listed company and further highlights that he is still improving. I would like to send him Stateside for his next run in the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint provided he gets in to the race. I feel the rigours of that race would suit him well. It is run over 5.5 furlongs around a bend – that is right up his street. Whatever happens next though he has enjoyed a mighty fine year and owes us nothing.
