Chebsey Beau Brings in 2019 with a Bang
Musselburgh’s New Year’s day meeting has been kind to us in recent seasons and Chebsey Beau continued our good form at the course when winning a handicap hurdle on the card. His only win in 2018 also came at the Scottish venue although that was on the flat.
A win appeared most unlikely throughout the race as he raced very lazily off what was quite a brisk early pace. Turning in to the home straight for the final time Chebsey Beau was firmly under the pump. However, he started to gallop quite strongly from there on in, picking rivals up all the time. A bad incident involving two horses at the second last hurdle threw the race wide open and Chebsey Beau was left in fourth place heading towards the last hurdle. He jumped it really well and landed running before staying on past his rivals to win by just over a length.
Chebsey Beau is an old yard favourite and has struck in five of the last six years at least once a year. His early win this time around gives us plenty more time to land another one. It could a flat race, hurdle race or a chase such is his versatility. We’ll take whatever comes his way.
