Liberty Beach Bounds Clear on Opening Week
Liberty Beach capped what has been a pleasing week for the team after racing resumed on June 1st. Plenty of our string have run well and look sure fire winners in the coming weeks. However, it was one of our superstars from last season who pulled out the biggest performance when winning the Listed Cecil Frail Stakes at Haydock on Sunday.
Two questions were hanging over Liberty Beach as she headed in to this season. Firstly, has she trained on? This success definitively answered that question. Secondly, is she as good over six furlongs as she is over five? She is a filly with speed to burn and based on this evidence she can cope with six furlongs but might be at her very best at the minimum trip.
Liberty Beach raced a little keenly in the early part of the race highlighting just how much speed she has. Jason Hart tucked her in behind the pacemakers and produced her with her effort after passing the two furlong marker. The filly got to the leaders with relative ease and hit the front just inside the last furlong. Liberty stretched clear before just idling a touch. At the line she won by three quarters of a length.
This win tees us up for what we hope will be a big season for Liberty Beach. She may now head for Royal Ascot to the Kings Stand. However, the Royal meeting us only one week away and if we feel that it will come too soon for her then there are plenty of big targets further down the line.
