Doncaster Double Sparked by El Astronaute
El Astronaute got made his belated 2020 debut at Doncaster on Sunday. However, he wasn’t slow in making up for lost time by winning the Listed Achilles Stakes. The seven year old gelding displayed all of his customary speed to blaze a trail up Town Moor. A decent field of sprinters were assembled for the contest but none of them could hold a candle to him in the early part of the race.
As El Astronaute passed the two furlong marker Jason Hart set sail for home. A challenger emerged from the pack and El Astronaute was forced to battle. However, our stable star was not for passing and rallied to win by half a length at the line. Based on this evidence El Astronaute is set for another good season in 2020.
Time Voyage also got herself in on the action to win the final race on the card. She had run well at Newcastle on her seasonal reappearance the week before and built on that to record her first career win. It was also a first UK winner for her Australian based owners so many congratulations to them!
I would hope that Time Voyage can continue to progress throughout the season and she may stay a little bit further than the one mile trip that she won over.
