Safe Voyage Soars Home on Derby Day for Landmark Win
A fantastic week from our runners was capped on Saturday when Safe Voyage won the Listed Surrery Stakes at Epsom in a new course record time. His win was a landmark one as it marked our one thousandth winner to boot!
It was fitting really that it was one of our stable stars who help us achieve this figure. Safe Voyage has boasted high class form for the past two seasons and this victory was thoroughly deserved after his excellent effort at Haydock a few weeks earlier.
A scorching early pace meant that Jason Hart sat back on his mount, giving him chance to find his feet. It seemed as if the runners were hurtling around Tattenham corner in no time and Safe Voyage handled one of racing’s most famous bends no problem. Turning in to the straight Safe Voyage came under pressure from Jason. It took him a little while to warm to his task but the pace in front of him started to fold approaching the furlong pole. At this point Safe Voyage hit top gear and flew home to run out the victor by a length and a half at the world’s most coveted winning post.
Epsom on Derby Day has been a happy place for our team down the years with us having landed numerous big race handicaps and Group races on the card thanks to the likes of Crow Wood, Caribbean Coral and Blythe Knight. Safe Voyage had already established himself as a real favourite in the yard prior to Saturday but after this victory he will always hold an even more special place in our hearts.
