Frankenstella Runs Rivals Ragged in Marathon Rout
The well-bred Frankenstella broke her maiden tag at Pontefract on Friday when winning a staying handicap on the card. She has always shown promise at home but has been something of a slow burner. Therefore, it was good to see the penny drop and her account in emphatic fashion to win by seven lengths under Ben Curtis.
Wearing blinkers for the second time Frankenstella appeared to be less phased in them (she ran a little bit in snatches in them first time up) and raced sweetly just behind the leaders. Ben Curtis started to warm the filly up about three furlongs from home and she responded well to his urgings. In the home straight the filly hit top gear and powered on strongly right to the line.
We have always felt that stamina was this filly’s forte and I am hopeful that now she has got her head in front that she can improve further this season.
