Hardy Ukulele Thrives On Scottish Air
My Ukulele, a filly that enjoyed an excellent 2019, got her campaign this year up and running at Hamilton on Monday when winning an apprentice race on the card. She is a filly in great heart and clearly a tough one too as this was her second appearance in Scotland in four days having finished third at Ayr late last week.
The early pace in this race was very strong and My Ukulele sat off it under Harry Russell who was having his first ride for the yard. At the top of the hill with four furlongs to run the leaders started to wilt and My Ukulele began to pick horses off. The eventual second placed horse travelled more sweetly than our filly but it is to My Ukulele’s credit that she battled very hard when she met the rising ground. She still had work to do to master Mac Ailey inside the fulong but she was determined and not to be denied.
As this was an apprentice handicap we will look to turn My Ukulele out again within the next 12 days as she can race off this same mark with no penalty. Hopefully we can win another race with her this season.
